Eight thousand years ago what is now Port Phillip Bay was mostly dry land, but with the passing of the Ice Age, the riverflats of the Yarra River were flooded and created an area that today covers around 2000 square km and is fed by some ten creeks and rivers. Reaching from the City of Melbourne on the mouth of the Yarra River to the famous “Rip” at Port Phillip Heads and fringed by many miles of sandy bayside beaches, the coastline supports diverse natural habitats for a wide variety of bird and sea life. This vast waterway provides excellent opportunities for commercial shipping, amateur and professional fishing, recreational boating and extensive sailing opportunities.

If you are drawn to the city sights and city lights, try a day sail to Williamstown or the Yarra River and the new docklands developments. Or perhaps a twilight cruise with dinner at one of the new restaurants or a gourmet meal aboard.

Want to escape from the crowd? Come sail away and explore undeveloped places with sheltered anchorages and neighbouring creeks. We are equipped with a 6 man inflatable dinghy and outboard and can take you ashore to little known areas to explore the coastline and assosciated diverse ecosystems.

Looking for something different for the weekend? Come further afield and explore the lower end of the bay around the Bellarine or Mornington Peninsulas. Stay overnight and be pampered with dinner in a pleasant marine location, be lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking of the boat and be treated to a hearty breakfast aboard.
